Hundreds of people are in hospital and nearly a dozen people died due to the leakage of styrene gas from the LG Polymers plant in RR Venkatapuram. According to villagers, the death toll may rise in the coming days. The whole incident has triggered the memories of Bhopal gas tragedy throughout the country and the rumours of a second leakage from the chemical plant have doubled the pain in the people.
But the officials of LG Polymers have recently put an end to those speculations and said that everything is under control and no second leakage occurred. Adding further, the officials have said that they are taking enough measures to bring the temperatures down.
The surrounding villages of the plant already have evacuated and experts from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have stepped in the village to decrement the emissions. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered a special commission to go through the whole incident so that the same threats do not happen in the future. He has also announced an ex gratia of 1 crore each to the deceased families, 1 lakh to hospitalized and 25000 to the people under primary care
